Industrial Applications: Environmental Control: Odor Control Systems

Malodors come from many different sources and are extremely difficult and problematic to control.
Engineers at MicroCool understand that the implementation of an odor control system is often initiated by the complaints of others and local authorities. Fines and penalties can often be high and the design engineers work with the owners to find the best and most cost effective solution.

There are many products on the market that claim to work against these airborne odors but only a few that actually “eliminate” the odors. So called “masking agents’ work by adding a secondary odor to make a third odor that hopefully masks the malodor; these are often very ineffective and very expensive.

Products that “eliminate” the malodors biologically are by far the preferred method of combating malodors in the environment. The MicroCool system injects a mixture of product and water into the air (at a ratio around 1:1000), since the liquid is atomized into billions of small water droplets, the water quickly evaporates leaving the odor product to entrap the malodors (using Van de Vaal’s forces) and biologically degrade the result leaving the air clean of the malodor.

MicroCool does not sell the odor control product, yet recommends certain manufacturers whose products are particularly adapted to use with a high-pressure mist system and not congeal in the nozzle line. Please contact our sales people to find out the suitable companies that work together with to achieve the best result.

Generally, the nozzle lines form a ring or a barrier around the pond, reservoir or odor outlet. Strings of nozzles at around 48” / 1.25mt create a barrier through which the malodor must pass. The odor product is in an ideal place to make sure that much of the odor is eliminated.

MicroCool also supplies various controls to limit the operation of the fog and control the cost of the chemical product. Sensors are used for wind (direction and speed), temperature, rain, time and other sensors as they become available to control the operation of the system.

Odor control systems are also used at lift wells, trash stations, extractor fans, rendering plants and other facilities. Please contact us to find out the best solution to your odor control problem.
